How to face your problems with gentle strength and confidence
Strength is a happy and lucky card. It says you will succeed if you face your problems courageously, confidently, and with gentle strength and perseverance.
In the twentieth century, German artist Hermann Haindl created a Tarot Deck inspired by imagery from Egypt, Scandinavia, and the Middle East; in his deck, the Strength card shows a naked woman holding a boa constrictor. In the more traditional Rider Waite Tarot Deck, a woman in Medieval garb is petting a lion.
In both cards, the meaning is clear: strength and power are yours if you want them.
Strength is number eight in the Tarot’s Major Arcana, and eights stand for strength – be it mental, physical, emotional, romantic, financial, personal charisma, etc. When an eight shows up, it says that you are control, even if you don’t think you are – or if you don’t want to be.
The Strength card shows that nature, wild and primeval, can be tamed by subtle persuasion. It also represents your gentler side, the feminine half of your inner self.
So this card suggests strength not through brute force, but through more refined and delicate means, such as influence or coaxing.
The card may indicate a need for gentle self-discipline for yourself or someone close to you.
Perhaps you need to be reminded of your inner compassion, endurance, and ability to accept what’s happening in your life. Maybe you simply need to become calm as chaos swirls around you. After all, in the Rider Waite Deck, the woman’s expression is serene, even happy, though she’s standing beside the King of Beasts.
So be content with the knowledge that you have the strength and ability to overcome your life’s obstacles.
