Nine of Wands, the perfect card for new year resolutions
The Nine of Wands is sometimes called the “Stamina” card, and it’s all about daily perseverance – something we need if we’re going to really make a go of it with our new year’s resolutions!
On the Rider-Waite Tarot card, a male figure leans upon one staff and is surrounded by eight others arranged like a defensive fence. In the English Magic deck the figure, dressed in Cavalier garb, is flanked by two stags, sacred animals that symbolise protection.
The Suit of Wands is associated with primal energy, spirituality, and inspiration, as well as with determination and strength, like the power that causes seeds to spring forth into life. Wands are generally positive cards related to things important to you at the core of your being.
Nines, meanwhile, can herald the beginning of the end of something, a natural winding down or closing. This doesn’t necessarily mean the thing in question is finished forever. Instead, it indicates that a new phase will soon be at hand.
In terms of astrology, the Nine of Wands represents the winter sign of Sagittarius. The year is nearly over, but there’s one more astrological sign — Capricorn — before the New Year.
