Prepare for Chinese New Year

New Year’s Day has come and gone – or has it?

The lunar-based Chinese New Year begins on February 5, and it’s another chance to bring yourself good luck throughout 2019.

This will be the Year of the Pig, and the pig is an auspicious sign in the Chinese zodiac – it symbolizes wealth!

Chinese people and others in Asia have many new year’s traditions to ensure good luck. Here are a few of them:

  • Clean the House in Advance. Tidy up early so you won’t have to clean during the first days of the new year: sweeping and washing early in the year could sweep away and wash away your good luck.
    .
  • Visit Your Hairdresser. Chinese people believe in getting a haircut before the new year begins, so why not splurge and get a new style, plus all-over colour, or highlights? Then wait at least a month before getting another trim.
    .
  • Go Shopping! If you’re a lady who loves shoes, these words will be music to your ears: the Chinese believe it’s lucky to buy new footwear before the year begins. Wear those trainers or Louboutins after a bath on Chinese New Year’s Eve.
    .
  • Deck the Halls with Flowers. For extra good fortune in 2019, add one of these lucky plants to your home: a tangerine tree (in Cantonese, the word “tangerine” sounds like the word for “luck”); pussy willows (the silver of the plant attracts money); cherry blossom branches (especially if you’re hoping for love); or daffodils (the golden colour pulls in wealth).
    .
  • Have a Feast. On New Year’s Day, feast upon chicken and fish because, in Cantonese, “chicken” sounds like “luck” and fish sounds like “well off.” Serve them whole, but don’t pick them clean; the leftovers mean you’ll have leftover money at the end of the year.
    .

I wish you all luck and success in the Year of the Pig!

Giving Tarot readings in a police cell!

I spent last Friday night in a police cell! Yes, really!  And it wasn’t just any old police cell; it was one that the infamous villain Reggie Kray had stayed in just ten months before I was born!

tarot | tarotbyemail | emailtarot | tarot readings | tarot reader | Tarot London | corporate tarot | business tarotThe beautiful 5* Courthouse Hotel in Shoreditch was previously the main court for the area that’s now superbly trendy and dynamic, but was once seedy and rundown. The notorious Kray twins were regular “guests” of the police custodian, and their brutal faces are now painted on the beautifully decorated cell walls as testiment to their past.

I had been booked to provide the entertainment for a corporate event that saw a UK-based company bring together its teams from all across the globe.  I had a brilliant evening reading Tarot for people from New Jersey, Canada, Switzerland and Denmark – as well as a good number from England and Wales.

The organisers invited me to help myself from the delicious buffet, and indulge in a couple of glasses of bubbly – I thanked them for the food but declined the fizz – I never drink when I’m being paid to read Tarot!

The evening was wonderful and the feedback I received was lovely. The event planner, Luci, messaged me on Facebook to say:

“Thanks Renée, my clients loved you. I got superb feedback. Such a fun addition to the event and thank you for being so flexible (working an extra hour due to high demand on the night).”

Yes, they enjoyed it so much and the queue was so long, that the client asked me to stay for an extra hour.

This testimonial was followed by another great response from a previous client:

“Renée is fab!! There was a queue of people waiting to chat with her at our #DW10K party. #highlyrecommended”
.
(Thank you both!)

If you’re planning an event and thinking about entertainment, Tarot is fun and always draws a curious crowd. I’m available for parties and events in London and Essex, and taking bookings now right up to Christmas 2019!! There’s more info about corporate and party bookings here.

Two of Pentacles, staying balanced or constant juggling?

The suit of Pentacles (also known as “Coins” or “Discs”) addresses the material side of life: possessions, finance and money.

tarot | tarotbyemail | emailtarot | tarot readings | tarot reader | Tarot London | corporate tarot | business tarotIn the Angel Tarot, which features pictures of shrubs and blossoms, the Two of Pentacles depicts a pair of coins surrounded by flowering vines.

The classic Rider Waite deck shows two ships tossed on the sea, while in the foreground a medieval juggler balances two enormous golden coins encircled by an infinity sign.

It’s not surprising to see this juggler’s balancing act, for Twos in the Tarot typically point towards balance, harmony and partnerships.

Therefore, this card can be about the need to reconcile or balance extremes in your life, especially where money is concerned. Do you overspend one week and compensate by becoming a miser the next? The Two of Pentacles recommends moderation between these extremes.

This card also counsels patience and flexibility. Are you about to abandon all hope of ever getting that high-paying job inheritance, or promotion you’ve been expecting? Don’t give up yet. Be patient.

The card may suggest you have taken on too much and are therefore forced into juggling things, especially in the material realm. Are you spending too much time working to earn money, and neglecting your loved ones, for example? The Two of Pentacles cautions against this, advising that balance is essential for a happy, successful life.

Speaking of happiness, Twos are often lucky (hence the beautiful flowering vines on the Angel Tarot card), and the Two of Pentacles can mean financial good luck is on your horizon – but only if you’re patient, flexible, and sensible when it comes to material things. This card also points to your innate ability to weather life’s storms. You may be tossed in one direction and then in another like a ship on the ocean – yet you maintain your good nature and optimism, perhaps even having managing to have fun during these experiences.

The final verdict from the Two of Pentacles? With a commitment to success, a positive outlook, patience, flexibility, and a determination to maintain balance in your life, you’ll prevail and come out on top!

Nine of Wands, the perfect card for new year resolutions

The Nine of Wands is sometimes called the “Stamina” card, and it’s all about daily perseverance – something we need if we’re going to really make a go of it with our new year’s resolutions!

tarot | tarotbyemail | emailtarot | tarot readings | tarot reader | Tarot London | corporate tarot | business tarotOn the Rider-Waite Tarot card, a male figure leans upon one staff and is surrounded by eight others arranged like a defensive fence. In the English Magic deck the figure, dressed in Cavalier garb, is flanked by two stags, sacred animals that symbolise protection.

The Suit of Wands is associated with primal energy, spirituality, and inspiration, as well as with determination and strength, like the power that causes seeds to spring forth into life. Wands are generally positive cards related to things important to you at the core of your being.

Nines, meanwhile, can herald the beginning of the end of something, a natural winding down or closing. This doesn’t necessarily mean the thing in question is finished forever. Instead, it indicates that a new phase will soon be at hand.

In terms of astrology, the Nine of Wands represents the winter sign of Sagittarius. The year is nearly over, but there’s one more astrological sign — Capricorn — before the New Year.

If you’ve been worried or struggling with something, this card says it’s time to calm yourself. Don’t allow yourself to become worn out or overwhelmed. You very likely need to rest, so take time to mend your wounds or, alternatively, to savour your victories.

When this Nine appears in your reading, it suggests your innate capacity to persevere, to protect yourself, and to succeed.

You know in your heart you have the strength and stamina to deal effectively with your current situation. The Nine of Wands confirms this. You’re divinely protected, and you’re poised to triumph. So relax and know that a new beginning lies ahead!
