The feminine charms of The Empress bring you creativity and abundance

The Empress in the Tarot represents the epitome of femininity: the creative, the fertile, the life giver, the mother. This card in the Rider Waite deck shows a beautiful seated woman crowned with stars who holds aloft a powerful sceptre. The garden that surrounds her reflects nature all its abundance and glory.

Tarot by Email | emailed tarot readings | london tarot readingsAs a Major Arcana card, the Empress represents one of the most commanding forces in the Tarot – this card should never be ignored. Coming in the first third of the Major Arcana, it stands for your own personal means of empowering yourself.

The card relates not only to the feminine, but also to the good life, luxury, and the enhancements of material world. If reversed or poorly positioned, the card may be saying that you or someone close to you is letting your material desires lead in the wrong direction, or show materialistic people using their influence in negative ways.

Sometimes the Empress can stand for a person; if this is the case, the person may be a lover of luxury, or someone who has something material to offer. This is probably a woman, but not always.

In addition to abundance and new life, from the Empress come sensual pleasures and joys, as well as connections with the natural world as represented by her garden. She can also indicate a happy pregnancy or the coming birth of a successful new project or endeavour.

The Empress may suggest that material rewards are on the horizon, but you should bear in mind the need to maintain generosity and openness. Keep both feet firmly planted on Mother Earth as you receive her bountiful goodness.

Ace of Cups – bringing you love

Tarot by Email | emailed tarot readings | london tarot readingsAn ethereal hand emerges from a cloud to present you with an ornate cup. A dove flies in and is about to drop a communion wafer from its beak into the cup, while four fountains of water stream down into a enormous lily pond. This is the image of the Ace of Cups in the famous Rider Waite Tarot Deck.

The suit of Cups represents emotions, feelings, love, relationships, and connections. Aces stand for the most powerful energy of the suit. Thus, the Ace of Cups signifies a strong emotional connection. It may mean the start of a new relationship – perhaps even one you don’t know about yet! Or it can signify a new beginning for a previous or existing partnership. This may be romance, but it could equally represent ties to a family member, close friend, or valued co-worker.

The Ace of Cups invites you to consider how you can enhance your life with love. If it’s reversed or negatively positioned, it may be advising you to ask yourself one of the following questions: “Do I need to forgive?” “Is there someone I should ask for forgiveness?” “Do I need to let go of anger or resentment and embrace feelings of love and peace?” “Do I need to be less reserved and more willing to reveal my feelings?”

Generally, the Ace of Cups signals the beginning of good emotional health and stability. It heralds joy and happiness for you and loved ones. So be thrilled with this benevolent card and the positive love-energy it brings.

Judgement: time for a change

The Angel Gabriel sounds the call on his trumpet. In response, naked men, women, and children rise up from coffins floating on water. In the background high snowy mountains rise against a blue sky. It’s Judgement Day.

Tarot by Email | emailed tarot readings | london tarot readingsThe Judgement card, number twenty in the major arcana, is all about change. And because major arcana cards are powerful, the change will be powerful, too. But this change is not abrupt or unexpected. It’s a metamorphosis, like the protracted transition of a caterpillar into a butterfly. It’s been long in coming, and it’s based on logic, reason, and preparation.

The figures on the card as shown in the Rider Waite Tarot deck are being freed from death. For you, the coming change will also be a liberation. This card suggests you are now or soon will be embarking on a new stage in your life. The people, ideas, and things of the past may no longer be relevant to you. They cannot hold you back as you move forward toward your true calling and something you’ve long worked for. It’s your fate, and you’re entitled to what the change brings.

However, as the metamorphosis takes place, be aware that well-meaning friends, family members, and associates may try to discourage you and impede your progress. This is because they’re afraid of losing you, or of losing the “you” that they know. Yet like Judgement Day, the forward momentum of this card is inevitable and cannot be stopped. You are being given the opportunity to make an epic decision and take decisive action. Only you can judge when it’s time to move forward, but don’t ignore the forces that are causing this change.

Listen as the Angel Gabriel calls to you with his clarion. Be willing to leave behind past negativity and encumbrances as you begin anew. Make sure you are prepared for the coming metamorphosis. And when you’re ready, let yourself be reborn.

Four of Cups

A figure sits tranquilly under a tree. Behind him is an azure sky, and three cups stand on the grass, easily within his reach. A fairy hand offers a fourth cup—but he’s lost in his thoughts and doesn’t notice. This is how the Rider Waite Tarot deck depicts the Four of Cups.

Tarot by Email | emailed tarot readings | london tarot readingsCups cards deal with emotions: feelings, love, relationships. They reflect heart-felt responses, as opposed to actions based on logic and reason. Of course, emotions have a negative side—too little or too much is rarely a good thing.

Fours are all about stability and steadiness.

These two ideas—emotions and stability—would seem to be at odds with each other, and this is the dynamic nature of the Four of Cups!

In the Rider Waite image, the meditating man is so tranquil and focused on the three cups that he fails to see what else is right before him: a gift or an unexpected opportunity. Because it’s a cup, it probably has to do with love—but alas, he’s oblivious to it.

When reversed or in a negative position relative to other cards, the Four of Cups may warn against wishful thinking, lack of gratitude, and taking your blessings for granted. It may also mean you’re suppressing your emotions and that you need to lighten up or take time to dream.

Either way, too much stability and too much focus on your own emotions are bad things. Have you become too self-absorbed? Are you lately a bit apathetic? If so, work on breaking free and on moving outside your own head. Don’t be afraid to give others a glimpse of your emotions, and don’t fear risks—especially emotional ones. Seek out new prospects, people, goals, and ideas.

And above all, be open to a new opportunity—especially one having to do with love. It may appear when and where you least expect it.
