Can 78 colourful pictures really change your life?
The answer is an enthusiastic “Yes!”
In this series, we look at the stories of some awesome people who’ve benefitted from life-changing Tarot card readings. We last featured Hannah’s story; this time it’s the turn of Ashley.
Ashley
Ashley was a pale, blonde, white girl who grew up on an American Navajo Indian reservation. Surrounded by raven-haired children, she naturally felt a sense of not belonging. By age six she’d become shy and she later experienced debilitating depression and anxiety.
Seeking comfort, she turned to spirituality. After starting with her father’s Bible, she moved on to dream interpretation. Eventually Ashley began to study the Tarot.
Repeated readings helped her understand her true place in the world and her intended life path. She learned that her childhood desire to become a teacher – unrealistic, she thought, because of her shyness – was in fact what she was meant to do. She made other discoveries too, based on Tarot readings, and these helped Ashley find supportive friends, and enabled her to overcome her depression and anxiety.
“The Tarot,” says Ashley, “helped me to understand why certain relationships in my life were as they were, why I felt certain challenges, and how I could make what seemed like a disaster into something helpful and rewarding.”
Today Ashley accepts herself, lives in a place she adores, and has a fulfilling career. You can read more about Ashley’s journey here.

“It’s so exciting, this feeling of a new beginning.” – Amy Irving, actress: Carrie.
Many cultures consider it good luck to embark on a new venture when the moon is new.
It’s lucky to move into a house or flat during the new moon, to begin a new venture, to ask your boss for a raise, or to propose marriage. (It’s also a great time for a Tarot reading!)
Spiritualist Ashley Neese writes, “In farming traditions, the new moon is the time when the soil is most fertile and wet. Many farmers and gardeners plant seeds on the new moon.”
Launching a venture under a new moon, therefore, is best for a long-term project. This the time for you if you’re patient, ready to plant seeds, and willing to wait for the seeds to germinate and grow.
For decades American astrologer Jane Madey has promoted the “Day of Abundance.” The first new moon of the new year, it falls on January 6th in 2019.
On the day of the new moon, Madey advises that you create a “cheque” on a piece of yellow or gold paper. Where you’d find the date on a typical bank cheque, write the date of the new moon (January 6, 2019). Where you’d find the payee’s name, fill in your own. Leave the number line blank, but where you’d normally spell out the amount, write “Paid in Full.” On the signature line, write “The Law of Abundance.” Then keep the cheque in a safe place throughout the year.
If you miss the first new moon of 2019, don’t worry; just backdate the check to January 6.
Here’s to abundance for us all in the new year and with each new moon!!

Some people proudly claim to be in their hermitage perhaps 70 to 80 percent of the time. As we only see Santa Claus for a brief few weeks – in shopping centres, visiting schools, hospitals and charity centres – and then a quick jaunt around the world on Christmas Eve, it’s quite likely that he epitomises the Hermit!
The percentages may change, but most of us like to have our “hermitage time” or quiet period. The Hermit tells you this is necessary for a happy, healthy life.
A Major Arcana card, the Hermit represents solitude and contemplation. It advises you to take time for yourself, and to retreat into your own private world. Once there, you can quietly assess your life, make vital decisions, and prepare to take important steps forward.
Many Tarot decks, such as the Rider Waite deck or the Old English Tarot, show the Hermit as an elderly man carrying a lantern. He’s not hiding in a cave. Instead, he’s out walking.
If the Hermit steps into your reading, know that it’s a card of introspection. His lantern symbolises the shining light of your own inner wisdom. You have the ability to sort things out once you’re free from worldly distractions. But don’t withdraw permanently and become a true hermit, even though you may find others to be irritating.
This card is also about putting on the brakes. It’s time to call a halt to frantic activities, and look within. Or perhaps a relationship is moving too quickly.
The Hermit recommends backing away from those pressuring you. Go off on your own to deliberate. Make the decision that you know is best.
Finally, the card may counsel guidance from wise teachers, whether in person or through their writings. They who are older and more experienced can help you move forward on your life’s path. Seek them out and be comforted. The Hermit’s lantern lights the way!
This is a brilliant time of the year to take a step back and quietly evaluate what’s gone before and what lies ahead. Comments Off on The Hermit – could this be the real Santa?
Sometimes people come to me for a reading because something in their life is not how they’d like it to be, but they don’t want to face what’s going wrong. In a few cases, people have been being bullied, either at work or in their personal lives. This is clearly very nasty, and this blog doesn’t aim to look deeply into what is, generally, a very personal issue for those concerned. Instead, it focuses on a series of cards that may appear at this time; the fives.
The Fives often symbolise power and dominance.
The Hierophant
Major Arcana card number Five, the Hierophant, denotes conformity. The bullying in your life is likely related to your free-spiritedness, which (through no fault of your own) somehow threatens others. Your choices: conform, rebel and suffer the consequences, or remove yourself from the bullying situation.
The Five of Wands
In the Rider-Waite deck, this card shows men with wands raised but not striking, so bullying may be subtle and temporary. The men are in different-coloured clothes, so the conflict may arise from differing belief systems. Try understanding the others’ viewpoints, and help them understand yours.
The Five of Cups
This is a card about loss. It may mean getting sacked, or being ostracised by friends. But there’s a positive side. The figure on the Rider-Waite card grieves over spilled cups and fails to see full ones, so this Five says be aware of what you haven’t lost and, as in the World War II slogan, “Keep calm and carry on.” Remember the saying, “Don’t cry over spilled milk,” and focus on all the good things you heave left.
The Five of Swords
American rock star Johnette Napolitano says, “This is one of those cards that makes you wince.” Overt conflict, hurtful words, aggressive physical abuse—that’s the Five of Swords. If this card appears, consider leaving the abusive relationship. If you choose to stay, examine your behaviour to determine why you’re staying.
The Five of Pentacles
When the Five of Pentacles appears, a bully may be making you feel bad about yourself. But behind two impoverished figures the Rider-Waite card shows a lighted church window, symbolising hope. Don’t let yourself be undermined. Avoid the bully if you can, and seek positive influences to counterbalance the negativity.
Please remember that these cards don’t only represent bullying; they have differing interpretations depending on where they’re located in the spread and which other cards are around them.
